Wednesday September 3

The flight remained smooth and uneventful through the night, I was able to get a decent amount of sleep inspite of the toddler behind me kicking the back of my seat quite a bit.

About a couple of hours before landing breakfast was served. Again the meal was really good and in more than adequate portion, followed by good coffee.

We landed about 45 mins ahead of time, consequently there weren't any gates available and we were diverted and came to a stop away from the gates. The plane with almost 300 passengers was unloaded methodically into 4 or 5 buses and brought to the terminal. The weather being pleasant it was hardly a hardship.

We proceeded to passport control, which went quickly and smoothly. Our luggage was booked through to Izmir and we had our boarding passes, so we started to walk towards the domestic terminal.

That was quite a bit of a walk but we did have over 2 hours and light carryons, so not too difficult.

Boarded the flight to Izmir on time and left on time. The aircraft was 737-800, the flight was smooth. We even got meal service of sandwiches, salads, juice etc free of charge. A very pleasant surprise.

The flight at 1 hr and 5 mins was over very quickly and we soon landed at Izmir.

It turns out that Izmir has the largest airport and we found out quickly how large when it turned out the international luggage comes to the farthest point of the airport. I am pretty sure this is the longest I have ever walked in an airport and I am giving up complaining about the walk at O'Hare.

Collected the luggage and walked out and was met by the driver holding up a card with our names.

The driver told us that it was an hours drive to our hotel, which was in Kusadasi. The weather was beautiful and I wish it was daylight so we could see some of the scenery.

As soon as we arrived at the hotel, our guide Rabia met us. She was a very personable female and as we found the next day an extremely knowledgeable one.

She gave me her contact number and settled on a time to meet the next day. She also gave us some recommendations for restaurants within walking distance.

We went to our room freshened up a bit and started walking. We ran into Rabia who was walking back to her house and she escorted us to restaurant that would have the type of food we were looking for. It was a couple of miles of walking but the weather was pleasant and walking felt good after the long flight.

The name of the restaurant was Konyali, Ahmet Usta. The people were very friendly and helpful and Rabia was right, the food delicious.

We retired for the night shortly after, we have full day of sightseeing at Ephesus followed by a late flight to Keyasari.
