Thursday September 4, 2014

We had breakfast at the hotel on the 8th floor terrace with a a view of the Aegean Sea and a humongous cruise liner in the harbor.

The breakfast consisted of variety of cheese, cold cuts, breads, and boiled egg. It was all self service including the coffee. The staff wasn't very helpful, however the view and the weather made up for any shortcoming.

Finished packing, went downstairs and checked out.

Rabia showed up on the dot at 9:00 AM as planned, the bellboy loaded our luggage and we were on our way shortly. The name of our driver was Ibrahim.

Rabia explained what we are going to see, the historical background together with the myths and legends. She was not only knowledgeable but made everything sound so interesting.

Our first stop Ephesus ancient city. This is an amazing archeological site with active exploration going on from 1990.

The highlight of the complex was certainly the Ancient Library, which was the third largest of its kind and the only one whose ruins still remain standing.

Other than the Library, the concert hall, the shopping arcade, and various other ruins from the daily lives was certainly interesting to see.

My favorite is still Petra, maybe the red color lends to some of the beauty.

Our next stop was the Terrace houses, which are in the process of restoration but enough of it is open to get an idea of what it may have been like.

The next item on our schedule was a demonstration of carpet weaving. This was truly amazing, the weavers fingers were a blur as she did the knots. The name of the place is Anadul located in Seluk

This is actually a school and and lunch is provided for any that visits as well. The lunch was excellent and was served outdoors in the garden area, the name of the restaurant was Bulbul.

First stop after lunch was House of Mary. It is believed that the house was built for her by St. John and she lived and died here. It is a very small house and the lines were very long, so we decided to skip it and proceed to our next stop.

St John's Cathedral and Monastery - this an extremely impressive site that is still being excavated and renovated. A sprawling site with interesting sites everywhere.

Now it was time to get back to Kusadasi, to catch our flight to Keyesari. Since we had some time to kill, Rabia took us to Seluk Koftecisi, a snack place that as expected had delicious food.

Rabia said her goodbyes and was going to take mini bus back to her house.

The driver Ibrahim took us to the airport. The flight was operated by Sun Express and was uneventful. We could purchase food but we were too full.

The transfer driver came to pick us to take us to Goreme, where we were going to stay in a cave hotel for the next 3 nights.

After about an hour we reached Goreme. unfortunately the driver wasn't too familiar with the area and took us to a couple different places before finding the right one.

The Name of the place is Nostalji Cave hotel and it is truly built into a rock formation as are many in this area. I can't wait until tomorrow morning to look around.

Ali checked us in and showed us our room and helped with the luggage. It was quite spacious both the bedroom and the bathroom and had two large windows on the outside wall.

I am glad we are staying here 3 nights.
